Hi, I’m Heather Finch, and welcome to Read, Write, Finch.

The name made sense for a few reasons: I love to read, I love to write, and Finch is conveniently already mine.

I’m a journalist based in Washtenaw County in southeast Michigan, where I write about local news, community life and the people, places and decisions that shape everyday life. This blog is a home for my journalism, class work and other writing as I continue building my voice as a reporter.

Before journalism, I worked as a pastry chef. I’m also a prolific reader and a mom of four, which means my life tends to involve a lot of stories, a little chaos and a deep appreciation for strong coffee and clear writing.

I’m drawn to work that is grounded, accessible and human. My goal is to tell stories that help people feel more connected to their communities and to one another.
